About this Project
Summary
The Southbridge Mill project is the adaptive reuse renovation of the 65,900 SF historic Southbridge mill building into a 48 unit, three-story residential affordable apartment building. Settled in the quiet town of Southbridge, Massachusetts, the building was formerly a textile mill and, more recently, a factory for the American Optical Company.
The brick apartments will have high ceilings and large windows. The building will hold a community space, a mail depot, a nine-person movie room, a bike storage room, a fitness area, and a community garden and seating overlooking a millpond.
Apartments in these old mill buildings present a unique opportunity for architects to blend modern design and features with utilitarian, unfinished structural elements.
This project is overseen by Dellbrook | JKS., one of the largest General Contractors in Massachusetts.
